The Yankees walked Miguel Cabrera to start the inning, and a short tapper from Prince Fielder moved him to second base. Delmon Young came up and delivered a screamer to right field that was misplayed by Nick Swisher and scored Cabrera.
The Tigers scored again with runners on the corners when Andy Dirks hit a soft ball up the middle that Yankees pitcher David Phelps tried to barehand and ultimately couldn’t make a play on.
The Tigers have now put the Jose Valverde blown save behind them and need to finish this one off.
