Two in the last two days – Ryan Raburn to the Indians and Delmon Young to the Phillies.
But what about former Tigers Jose Valverde and Brandon Inge – names we’ve not heard much about this winter.
Are their careers over? Or will one of them eventually find a new team – and, if so, which one?
I’m thinking that Valverde will sign somewhere – unless he doesn’t want to take less than the $7.5 million he’s averaged for the last four years.
Nobody’s going to give him that, but he’s still coming off a season of 35 saves (after 49 the year before).
Inge, meanwhile, will turn 36 in May. He’s not a kid anymore. He’s not close to being a kid anymore – and while the A’s were happy to have him around last year, the Tigers paid most of his contract.
But despite hitting just .226 for the year, Inge drove in 52 runs in 283 at-bats, and he’s still capable of acrobatic plays at third.
Chances are someone will give him a chance this spring, but he’s not packing his bags yet.
It needs to happen soon if it’s going to happen at all.
