Weekend Wine: Beringer Founders' Estate Chardonnay

Beringer will donate $1 to hunger charities for every bottle you buy in November and December. (Beringer)

Beringer Founders’ Estate Chardonnay California 2010, $8-$11. If you’re an under-10-buck Chardonnay buyer with some standards (Cupcake, Woodbridge by Robert Mondavi, Cono Sur), there’s another fine choice in supermarkets and wine shops, and you’ll most likely find it for $8. It’s a deliciously dry, crisp, oak-infused, apple and pear beauty with good acidity and flavor complexity. The Cabernet Sauvignon is a winner, too. And if you buy it this month or next, you will be helping the less fortunate: Beringer’s Million Meals campaign will donate $1 for every purchase of the Founders’ Estate wines in November and December to support hunger charities nationwide. This is the second year for the drive, and the goal is to raise money for 2 million meals.
