Read the words streaming across the tall red label for good descriptors: Yummy, currants, structured, elegant. The Parducci Small Lot Blend Cabernet Sauvignon Mendocino County 2009, $11, is an exceptional Cab for the price — the flavors are soft and approachable –  black currants, cherries, plums, brown spices and dark chocolate. It has wonderful dusty tannins that cling to the palate. Balance is spot on. Eleven bucks? It overperforms for the price. What gives? The Thornhill family purchased this legendary winery in 2004 and set out on a program to revitalize the estate. The family is committed to sustainable agriculture, and the winery is carbon neutral meaning it only uses solar and wind-powered energy. The Small Lot Blend line is produced by blending many different small batches of wine. The wines are aimed at restaurants but you can find them in wine shops.
