Weekend Wine: Estancia Pinot Noir

Estancia Pinot Noir Pinnacles Ranches Monterey County 2010, $16: This garnet beauty is like a mouthful of cherry crisp studded with raspberries, spiced with nutmeg and streaked with dark chocolate and caramel. It’s so yummy it’s like smashing the grapes in your mouth. It has good body, bold fruit and supple tannins. The grapes are off breezy, cooler sites in Monterey County’s Gabilan Mountains and Santa Lucia Highlands. I first tasted Estancia in a Jimmy Schmidt restaurant many years ago — and still today it’s like putting a high-end restaurant bottle on your evening table for a quite affordable price. This wine is widely available in well-stocked supermarkets and wine shops.
