Weekend Wine: Napa Cellars Cabernet Sauvignon

Napa Cellars Cabernet Sauvignon Napa Valley 2009, $21-$23: Napa Cellars is part of Trinchero Family Estates, which makes stunning wines in Napa Valley. This baby is Cabernet on steroids — intense cassis, black cherry, brown spices, cocoa powder and vanilla. Tannins are silken; flavors fill the mouth. It’s so good, you want to chew it. And it should be terrific, made off vineyards in St. Helena, Oak Knoll, Rutherford and Oakville. The wine, with its heavy bottle, deep punt and elegant label, overdelivers for the price. It’s a hidden gem if you’re shopping for Napa Cabernets. It’s widely available, but check Woods Fine Wine, Meijer, select Kroger stores, Holiday Market in Royal Oak, Busch’s and Champane’s Wine Cellars.
