St. Francis Sonoma County Rose 2011, $20: Keep you eye out for this limited production Rose from the renowned St. Francis Winery in Sonoma, which released 60 cases for National Breast Cancer Awareness Month and is donating $5 for every bottle sold to the National Breast Cancer Foundation and Sutter Medical Center of Santa Rosa Breast Care Center. It’s a pale pink color, packed with rose petals, watermelon and strawberry flavors. Acidity and faint tannins off the skins give it added character. It’s made from the free-run juice of the pressings of grapes destined for the famous St. Francis Meritage blend — Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc and Petite Verdot. The juice is fermented at cool temperatures and aged eight months in neutral oak barrels for added mouth feel. It’s a refreshing, well-made wine by St. Francis vintner Katie Madigan.
