Wine of the Day: Louis M. Martini Cabernet, a deal for 18 bucks

Louis M. Martini Cabernet Sauvignon Sonoma County 2010, $18:  Life doesn’t get much better for $18 than this Cab crafted off vineyards in Alexander Valley and Dry Creek Valley. Third-generation Martini vintner Michael Martini has Cabernet Sauvignon streaming through his veins. This beauty has intense jammy blackberry and dark plum flavors woven with spice and smoky oak. It has good texture in the mouth, and dusty tannins that paint the palate. Martini had to deal with the 2010 vintage, which brought cooler than normal temperatures, and rain early on. Though the summer ended with a blast of heat to ripen the grapes, Martini blended in Petite Sirah and some Lake County Cabernet to enhance the structure and mouth feel. It’s a wine with many dimensions.

Availability: You will find it in many independent stores, supermarket chains and pharmacies including various Rite Aid, CVS, Kroger stores, plus Orion Keg & Wine in Lake Orion, Pine Knob Wine Shop in Clarkston, Andy’s Country Market in Farmington Hills.
