Your Monday wine: Atalon Sauvignon Blanc from Napa Valley

atalon-sb[2]ATALON by Jackson Family Wines pays tribute to the diversity of Napa Valley by sourcing Bordeaux varietals from the region’s top spots, including its nooks and crannies. The wines are inspired by the diversity of the region. There are only three wines: this Sauvignon Blanc, a Cabernet Sauvignon and Pauline’s Cuvee — a Merlot-based blend. This Sauvignon Blanc has grapes from St. Helena, Oakville, Yountville and Oak Knoll. Can’t get much better than that.

Atalon Sauvignon Blanc Napa Valley 2014, $21: I have always loved this wine — Atalon once again shows how versatile this Bordeaux varietal can be. It’s the overtones of tropical fruit on the midpalate that stand out for me. The wine is refreshing and dry, with citrus, grapefruit and gooseberry tones along with profound minerality that underpins everything. And then that flash of pineapple and stonefruit pops on the midpalate. The finish is so tart and dry, like the zest of a white grapefruit from Florida.
