With a name like SAVED, plus elegant tattoo art for a label and a blend that’s like a magic potion, this bottle is destined for Valentine tables. The label is the creation of famed tattoo artist Scott Campbell; the wine is sourced and blended by California winemaker Clay Brock. The diamond-shaped design is actually a love letter to Scott’s wife, actress-director Lake Bell. It’s filled with symbols and codes for luck and love. The brand name SAVED is the name of Campbell’s tattoo studio in Brooklyn, N.Y. The new 2013 SAVED Red is a mix of Merlot, Zinfandel, Syrah, Petit Verdot, Malbec and Souzão. The wine is sold nationwide.
SAVED Red Blend California 2013, $25: Aromas of cherry and ripe plum, with notes of cola and spice get this wine started. Intense flavors are braced with firm acidity, a seamless infusion of oak and supple tannins. It’s an elegant wine, full-bodied and well-balanced with the kind of structure you will dissect as you sip. It’s from one of the best California vintages in this new century.
